Bureau Veritas (BV) serves as the Building Official for the City of Johnson City.  BV conducts all residential and commercial plan review and inspection services.

City Staff receives, processes, and coordinates all building permit applications and related inspection requests, including re-inspections.  Inspection requests for the next business day must by requested by 4 p.m. CST.  Please contact the City by calling 830.868.7111, Ext. 8, or by emailing rschroder@johnsoncitytx.org.

All building projects within the City’s corporate limits must comply with the following technical codes:

Residential and commercial properties must comply with the 2015 edition of the “International Property Maintenance Code.”

Bureau Veritas (BV).  During the plan review process, BV may contact the applicant for questions and/or revisions to the submitted plan set.

The City does not require Certificates of Occupancy for single family residential homes; a building final is sufficient.  The City does require Certificates of Occupancy for all commercial structures.  Applicants must submit the following:

A Certificate of Occupancy inspection ensures that a structure is structurally sound and in compliance with life safety regulations. Common inspection items include, but are not limited to, the following:

-No double key locks, slide bolts, or other locking devices (other than a thumb turn lock or bolt) on exterior doors.
-Illuminated exit signage.
-Addressing and suite numbers (6” minimum) prominently posted on a contrasting background and visible from the street.
-24-hour access to the electric panel.
-No missing circuit breakers or knockouts in electric panels and/or junction boxes.
-No broken or damaged electrical fixtures or cover plates.
-All electrical fixtures and outlets must comply with the National Electric Code.
-Vacuum breakers on hose bibs.
-Plumbing fixtures in good working order.
-All unused plumbing must be capped.
-Gas appliances and heaters must be properly vented and installed.

CHAPTER 380 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
APPLICATION FOR ECONOMIC INCENTIVES

Applications for a City of Johnson City development incentive under the City’s Chapter 380 Economic Development Program will be considered on a case-by-case basis. City Staff may request additional information or documentation. The City will contact successful applicants for purposes of drafting a Chapter 380 Economic Development Program Agreement. Nothing in this Application and consideration process creates any property, contract, or other legal right.
